Welcome to Mrs. Bryant's Professional Portfolio
Who I am:
My name is Tarah Bryant. I attended the University of Northern Iowa where I studied Elementary Education and Mild to Moderate disabilities. After college, I went into Behavior and Learning Disabilities. During this time, I completed some coursework at Morningside College. I took all the classes up until my internship. At this point, I decided to pursue a different route. I decided to go into Early Childhood and teach preschool for 3.5 years. During this time, I received an Early Childhood endorsement at Northewestern College. Next, I moved to Alabama and started to work at Gulf Shores Elementary as a Part Time Instructor and Substitute.
Why I became a teacher:
Throughout my educational experience, I have struggled a great deal with dyslexia and ADHD. Due to this, I gained a large amount of experience with heart break, victory, and the pleasure of meeting some people who have made a profound impact on my life. One of these great people was a special education teacher by the name of Mrs. Spain. She was a high school teacher who greatly influenced my decision to become an educator. Mrs. Spain took the time to understand each students' needs and extended her kindness to those who needed it most. She would be there to support students, myself included and assist those around her through struggle by any means necessary. It was because of Mrs. Spain that I gained confidence in school and started to see academics in a positive light.
What I hope to achieve through teaching:
I hope to make a difference in the lives of my students, by encouraging them to strive for greatness, no matter how large the obstacle. Through Mrs. Spain's example, I also desire the ability to show my support to my students in practical ways. In addition, I would also like to be an advocate in society and amongst colleagues for the equitable treatment of those with disabilities. In conclusion, I hope to inspire students through my actions and past experiences to prove that you can overcome any obstacles through determination, hard work, and perseverance.
Philosophy of Education:
Mistakes are not a sign of failure, they are a sign of learning.
